DESCOM Non-Emergency Line: In the case of a STREET or WATER Emergency after business hours, the Public Work Employees may be reached by contacting DESCOM on the Non-Emergency Line (319) 671-7001. Recycle Update: Area Recyclers mobile manned Business Recycling Truck/Trailer will be parked behind City Hall every Thursday from 12:30 - 2:00 PM. Anyone can use this service (rural residents, businesses, or Mediapolis residents who may have missed their curbside collection). BUILDING PERMIT INFO: A building permit WILL BE required for building ANY & ALL homes, garages, accessory buildings, decks, patios, or additions to any of those. Applications and setback requirements are available at City Hall. Permits must be approved by Public Works and the City Council before any construction begins. Please be aware that if you tear down a nonconforming structure, the new structure must conforms to current setback regulations. Burning Days: Leaf burning is permitted on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Yard waste, leaves, and branches (not entire trees) may be taken to the yard waste site across from the city pool on any day, at anytime. Please empty the bags and put the empty bags in the dumpster provided at the site. Illegal dumping at this facility may result in its closure. Burning trash is never allowed. ATV/UTV: The City has authorized the operation of all-terrain and off-road utility vehicles in the City of Mediapolis effective December 5th. Such operation shall be allowed between the hours of 4:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. and must follow the city speed limits.
