Garbage Update: The Mediapolis City Council approved a contract with LaVeine Sanitation regarding Residential Garbage Collection.  Beginning Wednesday, December 5 th , garbage will ONLY be collected once a week. Collection days will be on Wednesdays following the December 5 th  date.  LaVeine will provide each resident a 95-gallon trashcan, unless a smaller 65-gallon can is requested by 3:30 PM on Tuesday, November 20 th .  Both sizes of trashcans are on display at City Hall and can be viewed during business hours M-F 7AM-4PM.  In addition to this change, Residential Refuse Rates will be increased from $12.34 to $13.90 each month, starting with December’s Utility Bill.   Social Media:  Find us on Facebook at City of Mediapolis.  Keep up to date on the latest happenings around town and receive reminders. BUILDING PERMIT INFO:  A building permit WILL BE required for building ANY & ALL homes, garages, accessory buildings, decks, patios, or additions to any of those.  Applications and setback requirements are available at City Hall.  Permits must be approved by Public Works and the City Council before any construction begins.  Please be aware that if you tear down a nonconforming structure, the new structure must conforms to current setback regulations. Burning Days:  Leaf burning is permitted on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Yard waste, leaves, and branches (not entire trees) may be taken to the yard waste site across from the city pool on any day, at anytime.  Please empty the bags and put the empty bags in the dumpster provided at the site.  Illegal dumping at this facility may result in its closure.  Burning trash is never allowed.  Golf Carts:  Golf carts can be driven ONLY by those having a valid driver’s license.  They must be equipped with a “slow moving vehicle” sign and a bicycle safety flag and may only operate on the street from sunrise to sunset.  They cannot be driven on Main Street or Highway 61, but, shall be allowed to cross those streets.  They must be equipped with adequate brakes and shall meet any other safety measures required by the State of Iowa.     City Holiday Schedule City Hall and City Shop will be CLOSED for the following holidays: Christmas December 25th and 26th New Years Day January 1, 2019
